Welcome to adamsonmedia.com, home of sports and humor. After a 30-year newspaper career, I decided to step away from the daily grind to grind out content of my own choosing.
And be warned: this will be a fluid website, constantly evolving – what it will ultimately evolve into is anybody’s guess. It could go a lot of different directions, depending on where you steer me.
Here’s what I know, for sure:
Each week, I’ll have a general column, “Brain Farce,” which takes a not-so-serious look at whatever is on my mind. If, over time, people come to associate this with Brain Farts, I have no problem with that.
Be on the lookout for original humor content in the form of video, hopefully coming soon. It’ll be like the “Brain Farce” column, except completely different.
I will also have a weekly sports column titled “Out Of Left Field.” That was the name of the column I penned at my last newspaper job, but it wasn’t copyrighted so I’m going to claim it as my own intellectual property. If my former newspaper comes after me and threatens to sue unless I change the name, I won’t lawyer up. The name of the column will simply become “Out of Africa,” and I’ll mostly write about Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and the late Sydney Pollack.
In “Out Of Left Field,” no sports topic is off limits, but since I’m Alabama-born, Alabama-raised and currently live in South Carolina, you can rest assured football will have a strong presence in my commentary.
Speaking of football, it reminds me of futbol, and in the interest of full disclosure I should tell you that soccer is my primary sports passion. I’ve loved it ever since watching the old “Soccer Made In Germany” show on PBS as a kid and want to write about it much more than I could as a sports writer in American football-crazed markets.
I can, thanks to a section known as Sidewinder Insider.
In it, I’ll provide news and notes from the world of soccer, both college and professional. This will be a real work in progress, so if you’re interested, please be patient.
And if you’re not interested, just forget I said anything and we’ll never speak of this again.
I hope this will be a fun and informative website, one that can appeal to sports fans and non-sports fans alike. To that end, I’ll do my best to steer clear of politics.
If I want to piss people off with my views and lose friends, I’ll do it on Facebook and Twitter like a normal person.
Anyway, thanks for stopping in and checking things out.
You’re welcome back any time.
